What is a VIN Decoder?

A Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is a unique 17-character code assigned to every car manufactured after 1981. It serves as a fingerprint, providing crucial information about the vehicle, such as its make, model, year, and manufacturing location. A VIN decoder is a tool that interprets this code, offering detailed insights into a vehicle’s history, including accident records, title issues, odometer readings, and more.

Using a VIN decoder is essential for prospective car buyers, as it can reveal potential red flags, ensuring that you make an informed decision before purchasing a pre-owned vehicle.

  1. I am not sure of the dependability of Car Vertical. I checked 2 vehicles. The first was a 20 year old import. CV id’d it only. The second is a new one that I leased from new 2021 Mazda CX-9. CV id’d the vehicle but info was wrong. Not impressed.
